A great way across the high Sierras for those looking for a slower way with stunning views and amazing scenery. At the pass, you have views looking east across the Kern Plateau all the way to Mount Whitney. Very few cars and people. Not for the non adventurous. Solitary, no cell coverage and no services for close to 70 miles. Travel prepared and know the range on your vehicle. It is a very curvy road, so not recommend for those that get motion sickness. Be prepared for all types of weather. But you will be rewarded with one of the best ways across the high sierras.

You can look across the Kern Plateau to Olancha Peak, Monache mountain and the west side of Mt Whitney. Beautiful stop on your way to the Golden Trout Wilderness. Stop at Blackrock Ranger Station to check restrictions & conditions.

Sherman Pass has a small parking lot, a bathroom, and is the trail head for the Cannell Meadow Plunge trail, Sherman Peak trail, and Sherman Pass trail. Mostly used by mountain ? bikers ?‍♀️ to shuttle the Cannell Plunge trail. Also great for views of the Southern Sierra mountains including Mount Whitney.

75 mile stretch of road it’s no services, limited cellular coverage, and pretty badly potholed in some sections. It traverses the Sherman Plateau, where there are a couple of Forest Service campgrounds, as well as plenty of opportunities for dispersed camping. There’s an extensive network of OHV trails, which in the winter are used by snowmobilers. There’s even a yurt ? set up as a warming hut - with an adjacent helicopter ? pad. Try not to do anything that would require you to be medivac’d out - I’m sure it would be expensive!

Great place to escape from the lowland heat. Camped up here September’22, and was 110° in the desert, but within a couple of hours, it was a beautiful 82, and perfect camping weather. Hundreds of places to hike/explore/camp/chill

This has got to be a contender for the best road in the US. It's so good I still can't believe it's really real even though I drove it myself less than a week ago

Beautiful hiking at altitude. Best done in the late summer or early fall as there's snow otherwise. There's a vaulted toilet at the trail head. Be aware of bears.

Great views, closest place to So Cal where you can drive to 9,000 ft elevation (cool even in mid summer), and a beautiful area.
